Fall Into UtopYA Day 4: Fire in the Darkness by Stacey Marie Brown

UtopYAfall

FIRE IN THE DARKNESS
(Darkness Series #2)
FID_1800x2664
It's been four weeks since Ember Brycin witnessed what her powers are capable of. The Electrical Current Storm has turned Seattle, Washington into a natural disaster zone. The death toll is in the thousands with countless others homeless and hungry. And Ember is the one who caused it. Something she will have to live with every day. Those people who were unable to escape either turned quickly into gangs or live in shelters. Ember, on the other hand, can’t do either. With a price on her head and a Dark Dweller on her ass, she is constantly on the move. Both Light and Dark are hunting her for their own purpose to use her as a weapon or a pawn in the war between the Unseelie King of the Dark and the Seelie Queen of the Light. Em needs help but doesn’t know who to trust: Lars, the mystery man Torin told her to find? Torin, the Seelie Queen’s personal knight, who has sworn to keep Em safe? Or Eli, who wants to turn her over to the Unseelie King, but whom she has an undeniable, intense connection with? No matter what she chooses she will probably lose—her life or everything and everyone she loves

Release Day Blitz: Moirai by Ruth Silver

Moirai by Ruth Silver (Book 2)
Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Science-Fiction
Goodreads

Summary:
Olivia has been on the run from the government of Cabal since the marriage ceremony. Finally settling in and finding herself a place to call home, in Shadow, Olivia and Joshua are preparing for the uprising that they and the rebel alliance have been planning for months.

With new abilities and special talents, from Mindonsiphan, Olivia learns that she can do more than most ordinary eighteen year olds. Learning both to hide and perfect her skills will be one of the biggest challenges she'll be forced to face.

A constant rollercoaster of emotion and adventure await Olivia and Joshua, as they embark on a journey to the rebel city of Torv, and what was once home, Genesis.

“He wants her thrown in the dumpster.” I grimaced as I approached the mattress. “Help me.” I gestured towards the body. “I can't carry her on my own.” Even if I could, I wasn't doing this alone.
“I'm not throwing her away like garbage!” Lisa crossed her arms. “Think of something else, Jacqueline.”
“We could grab some wood, wrap her body, and burn her.” I glanced around the small bedroom. It was mostly empty, except for the dresser against the wall. There were no trinkets, no signs of another life outside of Genesis. I couldn't help but wonder if anyone missed her from back home.
“How are we going to do that without getting caught?” Lisa asked.
“I don't know. Craynor will know we did it.” We were the ones that were told to throw the body away.
“We could find a place in the far end of the lot and bury her.”
Lisa frowned. “No, I like the idea of burning her body. We'd be making a statement. Anita would have approved.”
“If we get caught, we'll be killed,” I reminded her. So much for staying out of trouble.
“He's killing his servants. You don't think that demands attention?” Lisa huffed. “I would have liked to know what I was getting involved in before I worked here.”
“It wasn't like you had a choice.” I reminded her bitterly. That was what we were fighting for: our freedom to make choices. Whether they were right or wrong, they were our choices to make.
“Even so,” Lisa scoffed, “she deserves more than being thrown away like a piece of trash.”
Footsteps clomped through the hallway, just outside the door. “Well whatever we decide, we need to do it fast.”

Aberrant by Ruth Silver (Book 1)
Genre: Young Adult, Dystopian, Science-Fiction
Goodreads | Amazon | Barnes & Noble

Summary:
In the future Dystopian society of Cabal, the government instills equality for all and offers its citizens the perfect system. There is food, shelter and jobs for everyone. The one requirement is to follow the rules without question, including the government's match in marriage and "The Day of the Chosen", a lottery that randomly selects families to conceive children as natural means hasn't existed in generations. Following her eighteenth birthday, Olivia Parker accepts her requirement to marry her childhood best friend, Joshua Warren, and is eager to start her work assignment and new life when it all comes abruptly to an end as she's arrested and thrown in prison. The only crime committed, her existence. Olivia is unlike the rest of the world born not from "The Day of the Chosen." The truth haunts the government and puts her life in grave danger as one simple fact would destroy the perfect system.

With Joshua's help, Olivia breaks free of prison and is forced on the run. Together they set out to find the promised rebel town in search of a new home and new life together. Their situation seems less than promising as they reach the town of Haven. New rules and customs must be adhered to in order to stay. Leaving would mean most certain death in the large expanse of the Gravelands. Time is running out as the government mounts an attack to destroy Olivia and bury her secret with her. Thrown into a world unlike their own, they must quickly adapt to survive.

Ruth Silver attended Northern Illinois University and graduated with a Bachelor's in Communication in the spring of 2005.  While in college, she spent much of her free time writing with friends she met online and penning her first novel, Deuces are Wild, which she self-published in 2004.  Her favorite class was Creative Writing senior year where she often handed in assignments longer than the professor required because she loved to write and always wanted to finish her stories.  Her love of writing led her on an adventure in 2007 to Melbourne, Australia.  Silver enjoys reading, photography, traveling and most of all writing.  She loves dystopian and fantasy young adult stories.  Her debut novel published by Lazy Day Publishing, ABERRANT, was released April 2013.  The second novel in the series, MOIRAI, continues the saga. Ruth has been actively writing since she was a teenager.  She currently resides in Plainfield, Illinois.

Author Spotlight - Allyson Gottlieb: Cast Photos & Bios

Today is the last day of the Author Spotlight series on Allyson Gottlieb. We get a peak at the characters of DARKEST LEGACY with photos and a little information on each of them.

It's hard to capture the complete essence of a character in one photo. But I always like to see what photos the authors pick to represent their characters. Although they might not always be the same as our own vision, it's still interesting to get an idea of what the characters might look like.

A lot of the times, for me, no matter what the character's description is in the book, I picture them completely different.
For instance, I may picture this...

when they're supposed to look like this...

Or vice versa! (I'm weird I know!)

Now...on to the DARKEST LEGACY photos!

Author Spotlight - Allyson Gottlieb: 9/11/13 Top 10 (divided by 2)

Today we're going to get a little more of Allyson. This Top 10 is very special...because it's Allyson's very first Top 10 List! Woohoo! The Gryffindor table is very excited!

(gif provided by http://www.reactiongifs.com)

I couldn't really decide what the best Top 10 List for Allyson should be. So I gave her the choice. And...well with this being her first one, she was up for whatever!

hmm, I don't know. I love music, and TV, and movies, and food...
pretty much anything you could throw at me, really

So, I decided to break it up a bit. Instead of doing one Top 10, we're doing TWO Top 5's! Whaaa?! Yup! That's what I said. TWO...TOP...FIVES!

This is my very first post in the PTB's AUTHOR SPOTLIGHT SERIES. It will be a week long event highlighting authors and their book(s). Usually, I will spotlight newly published or authors in process, but not always. I've got to give some love to my other Indie authors too!

So let's get started...

A mysterious man, whose identity is a secret and his face unknown, is an outcast and exiled on The Continent, where he sticks to the shadows and appears to be dead in the eyes of the world. His devastating past has made him bitter and sarcastic, mean and insulting, and he chooses to live a criminal life rather than one of virtue. But when he is stabbed fatally in the chest, he is forced to seek help from a nature priest, but his aid comes at a price—to rescue a woman. Against his reservations and protests, he travels to a guarded city and rescues her from the Prisoner’s Circle, and as soon as she sees his frame, cloaked and covered in weapons, along with his hostile attitude and malicious words, she is wary of him. HAUNTING: THE DUSY CHRONICLES Cover Reveal, Review & Givewaway

Welcome to the NEW cover reveal for

HAUNTING:
The Dusty Chronicles
Book 1

by BJ Sheldon

I had the pleasure of meeting the fabulous BJ Sheldon at UtopYA Con 2013 in Nashville. Introduced to me by the amazing Carol "Mama" Kunz. Upon introduction, Carol suggested that BJ give her book to me to read, review and "pimp out," as it were. BJ gladly obliged, and even signed her book for me! YAY!

To be honest, I didn't know if I was going to like the book. Although the barn looked haunting and I was curious to know it's significance in the story, the original cover (below)

didn't quite have me this excited to read it...

More like...

But the summary caught my attention,
and I ended up reading it not long after leaving Nashville.

Now that I've got you all warmed up
(especially with a picture of Jensen)

Here's some info on the book:
