Author Spotlight - Allyson Gottlieb: 9/10/13 All About the Author

Yesterday was all about the book DARKEST LEGACY. Today, we're going to get to know Miss Allyson!

Author Bio
Allyson Gottlieb was born in California, but can't wait to go away to college and trade sunshine, bikinis, and fruit smoothies for autumn leaves, winter coats, and hot cocoa. When she's not busy working on her next bestseller, she can be found devouring books, obsessing over far too many TV shows, baking, spending time with her family and friends... and occasionally doing some homework. She has been writing since second grade and has no plans to stop until she runs out of stories to tell - so basically never.

Author Interview
Q: How long have you been writing?
A: Let's see, I think I started writing when I was about seven years old.
Q: What inspired you to write this story? How did it begin?
A: I woke up from a dream that I really didn't want to forget, and then asked my dad to set up a word document for me so I could type it up. (Of course, being a child of the technology age, that was my first thought, rather than to hand-write it in a journal.) As for the contents of said dream... nope. That is a secret that will go with me to the grave. (I was seven, it's horribly bad and embarrassing.)
Q: What's the best advice you've been given since you became an author?
A: That's an interesting question. I don't know. Are we defining ʺauthorʺ as meaning ʺpublished author?ʺ Or just in the sense that you write books with your spare time?

Re: the published author thing, I think more than anything specific, it'd be a ton of little things that I've picked up by virtue of belonging to this amazing indie author community. It's like a little family, all this love and support, and after always feeling like my writing made me a bit of an outcast in 'normal' society, it's nice to meet so many people like me.

But since I sort of derailed the question... okay, here's an answer that I think is more what you wanted. Someone's said this to me in some form over the years, I'm sure: ʺDon't be afraid to do what you love.ʺ Simple but classic.
Q: Who are your favorite authors?
A: God, I could go on forever with this. Well of course, there's the queen - JK Rowling. Cassandra Clare, Lauren Weisberger, Kate Brian, Melissa de la Cruz, Kassandra Kush, Sophie Davis, Megan Curd, Suzanne Collins, Ally Carter... I should probably stop now, right?
Q: What are you reading right now?
A: I just finished Steel Lily by Megan Curd. And oh my God, there really are not enough words to describe the sheer awesomeness.
Q: If you could only read 5 books for the rest of your life, what would they be?
A: The Mortal Instruments series! Except since there will be 6 of those... I guess I'd toss out City of Fallen Angels. That one pretty much sucked.
This last one is a fun, UtopYA 2014-inspired question...
Q: You're being abducted by aliens, but they allow you to bring only 5 things from home. What do you bring?
A: My laptop (duh - my life is on that thing. Aliens have Internet, right?), my signed copy of City of Bones(!!), eyeliner, headphones, and my kitty (I'm assuming the aliens will have food and water for her so she doesn't die and I don't have to waste space bringing them).
Stalking Allyson
Unfortunately, Allyson does not have a Twitter account! Wait...what?! (I know, I know! I don't understand it myself, but to each her own!)
It's okay, though...here are some other places you can find Allyson (and convince her to get Twitter). Or, to tell her you just downloaded, read and loved her book DARKEST LEGACY (which you can find >>>> HERE).
